Architectural concept design
The proposal for a new exhibition wing of the Lima Art Museum (MALI) addresses the connection between the scale of the city and the one of architectural building through the concept of porosity.
The intervention focuses on connections between different levels - i.e. the metro system (-7.50); the park (0.00) and the existing Exposition Palace - configuring the new wing as urban basement developing the functions between these different levels and connceting them outside and inside.
The main definition of the design proposal stands in the idea of a porous land/urban basement below grade (1.10 m on the ground). it is an underground passage connecting the park through the street; it is a public plaza hosting art pieces in collective space; it is a public promenade connecting the level of the metro with one of the park; it is a landscape monolite through water (the public plaza) and green (the roof) multipling the space for pedestrian and visitors, below a calm space of water, above a green terrace in front of the old museum. In the inbetween all the functions needed in the new intervention.
